A product-specific format
The direct, efficient way to make a rectangular tag
Shear-cut tags are printed in rows and trimmed on straight blades, leaving four square corners and no shaped cutting form. That simple production route reduces set-up, uses the sheet efficiently and makes the format useful for repeat retail work.
The trade-off is physical rather than decorative: square corners show handling sooner than rounded ones. Choose the board weight for the time the tag will spend on the product, not only for how it feels when new.

Additional information
Build the specification
Shear Swing Tags specification
- No tooling cost at all
- Every shaped tag carries a die cost. A shear cut tag does not, which is the single biggest reason to choose it for a large or price-sensitive run.
- Square corners are the trade-off
- A guillotine leaves sharp corners that dog-ear more readily than a rounded or die-cut edge. On a heavily handled product that is a real consideration.
- Fastest route through production
- Removing the cutting form removes a whole operation, which is usually the difference on a tight deadline.
- Best sheet efficiency
- Rectangles nest with effectively no waste, so more tags come off each sheet than with any shaped alternative.
- The hole is the only shaped element
- With no die, the punched hole is the one place the outline is broken, so its position and reinforcement carry more weight than usual.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Keep essential shear swing tags copy clear of the trim edge and attachment area. The page-specific artwork guidance explains the considerations for formats, holes, folds and variable product information.
If shear swing tags artwork is not final, submit the product and specification details first. This gives the production conversation a clear starting point without forcing a premature file upload.

Shear Swing Tags FAQs
What is the difference between a shear tag and a standard tag?
Shear refers to the cut itself: four straight guillotine edges and no cutting form. It is the plainest and cheapest way to make a tag, and the reason the price is lower than any shaped alternative.
Will the corners dog-ear?
More readily than a rounded corner, yes. If the product is handled a lot, a rounded corner die solves it, but that reintroduces the tooling cost shear cutting avoids.
Is it really cheaper?
Yes, on two counts: no die to pay for, and rectangles nest on the sheet with almost no waste, so more tags come off the same board.
