Hexagon swing tags have six equal sides, which reads as modern and geometric and also suggests a honeycomb for honey, beeswax and natural products. The shape keeps a generous central area, so it holds more text than most shaped tags of the same width.
Decide whether the tag hangs point-up or flat-top before the artwork starts, as that changes where the hole goes and how the type lines up. Hexagon is a preset shape in the Custom Tag Builder; say whether your width is measured across the flats or the points.

Plan the finished format before export
Build the artwork on the hexagon dieline in the orientation it will hang. Point-up and flat-top layouts put the hole in different places, and type aligns to the flat edges.
Keep essential copy in the central band; the six corners are the least usable area and the first to scuff when the tag is handled.

How much usable area does a hexagon have?
More than a triangle or a star of the same width, and slightly less than a square. The corners are shallow enough to hold type close to the edge.
Which orientation should the hexagon hang in?
Flat-top keeps the hole on a straight edge and the type level, which is easier to lay out. Point-top looks more distinctive but reduces the width at the top of the tag.
Is a hexagon more expensive than a rectangle?
It needs a cutting form rather than a straight cut, so it sits on the shaped-tag price ladder alongside other die-cut outlines.
Does a hexagon suit a barcode?
Yes, provided the barcode runs parallel to a flat edge with its quiet zones intact — do not let the angled sides crop it.
