Ask what the outline contributes

Protect readable and structural space
Build the cut path around the required copy, not the other way round. Narrow points and deep cut-ins reduce the safe area and can bend or tear during handling. The drilled hole needs enough surrounding board, and borders need practical clearance from the cutting tolerance. A full-size paper mock-up exposes weak areas before tooling or production.
Plan repeat use of the shape
Record the approved vector outline, finished dimensions, hole centre and orientation as part of the product specification. Reusing the same controlled shape can support consistency across a range, while casual changes to its proportions create new artwork and setup decisions. Keep variable information within a stable inner layout wherever possible.
