Heart-shaped swing tag

A heart-shaped swing tag features a symmetrical die-cut silhouette with a defined upper cusp and tapered lower point. Common production sizes range from 60mm to 75mm, manufactured using steel-rule forme cutting on 350gsm–700gsm board stocks to prevent edge curling at the apex.

Designing and Setting Up Heart Die-Cut Tags

Heart silhouettes are widely specified for boutique bridal wear, Valentine’s promotional campaigns, intimate apparel, and artisanal gift packaging. Because the cut line curves continuously around the perimeter, precision dieline preparation is critical to ensure clean cuts without pinching.

Key Technical Specifications & Sizing Standards

  • Standard Boutique Heart: 60mm × 55mm (ideal for jewellery, lingerie, and cosmetic gift sets).
  • Promotional Retail Heart: 75mm × 70mm (provides ample room for retail barcodes, pricing, and care instructions).
  • Hole Drill Placement: 3mm or 4mm aperture placed either at the top left lobe or centred inside the upper cusp with a minimum 4mm safety margin from the cut edge.
  • Bleed & Safe Zone: 2mm external bleed following the curved vector path; keep all critical text 3mm inside the inner cut line.

Substrate & Finishing Recommendations

Because the lower apex of a heart tag narrows to a point, we recommend specifying minimum 350gsm Silk, 300gsm Unbleached Kraft, or 700gsm Duplex Board. Lightweight paper stocks below 300gsm risk creasing at the bottom tip during garment handling.

Finishing embellishments like metallic gold or rose gold hot foil stamping along the outer curved border create a luxury tactile feel. Soft-touch matte lamination adds a velvet texture that complements romantic and bridal branding.

Decision context

Resolve the heart cusp, point and attachment together

A heart shape has two rounded lobes, an internal cusp and a lower point. Those features create less usable space than the outer width suggests. Keep names, messages and logos in the central body and use a safe contour that follows the actual silhouette.

Avoid an excessively sharp lower point or tight inner cusp that may bend, catch or cut poorly. The board, size and finishing affect how robust the shape feels. A smooth vector path with balanced curves is more reproducible than a low-resolution traced outline.

Choose the hole position after testing hanging balance. A centre hole near the cusp can compete with artwork and needs adequate material; an offset hole changes rotation. Review the tag with its ribbon or string on the gift, garment or product rather than as a flat icon.

Supply the final closed cut path at size with bleed and safe area, plus separate hole and finish layers. Check front and reverse orientation and cut a paper dummy. Record dimensions, stock, attachment and quantity for each personalised or seasonal version.
