Reflective colour through the sheet

Metallic Card Swing Tags

Metallic card swing tags begin with a reflective or pearlescent stock rather than adding a small foil detail after printing. Artwork must account for the coloured reflective ground, ink opacity and the appearance of the cut edge.

A product-specific format

Metallic Card Swing Tags for product presentation

Metallic Card Swing Tags give product teams a dedicated format for the information and presentation requirements of the item being sold. The specification should begin with the product it will be attached to, then account for the information the tag needs to carry.

Use the form to record the final size, card direction, print sides, finishing and attachment for metallic card swing tags. This keeps the practical decisions together before artwork is supplied or confirmed.

Where this format fits

Metallic Card Swing Tags uses

01

Jewellery and accessories

Use the reflective stock as a broad background effect where a small foil detail would not create enough material presence.

02

Premium clothing ranges

Pair a restrained printed identity with the sheet colour so the board carries the decorative effect.

03

Gifting and seasonal products

Build a limited palette around silver, gold or pearlescent material rather than printing a simulated metallic texture.

04

Presentation tags

Use opaque and transparent print areas deliberately so some parts retain the stock reflection and others remain controlled.

Material guide

Getting the best results from metallic card

Metallic card has a reflective or pearlescent surface throughout, so the whole tag shimmers rather than just a foiled detail.

Choosing the weight

Metallic card is offered at 300gsm, 350gsm and 420gsm. 350gsm suits most gift, beauty and seasonal tags. The heavier 420gsm keeps the shimmer flat and even across larger tags.

How ink looks on metallic card

Process inks are slightly transparent, so the metallic surface shines through anything printed on it. Dark colours take on a metallic sheen; pale colours almost vanish. The card colour, such as silver, gold or pearl, tints every colour printed over it.

For a clean, readable result, print text in black or another dark colour, and use white ink as a base under any area that needs true colour.

Designing with the shimmer

Leave part of the card unprinted so the metallic surface shows. A dark logo and short message on an open metallic ground usually looks more premium than full coverage. Avoid large photographs; the reflective surface makes them hard to see.

Legibility and codes

Reflective surfaces make small text and barcodes harder to read under bright lights. Keep text at 8pt or larger and print barcodes and QR codes on a white panel.

Finishes and handling

Foil in a contrasting metal, such as black foil on silver card, gives a sharp effect. Embossing shows well because the raised area catches the light. Metallic surfaces can show fingerprints, so a lighter shade hides marks better on tags that customers handle.

Build the specification

Metallic Card Swing Tags specification

Size and proportions
A bespoke outline is cut to its own profile, so artwork needs bleed that follows the curve and a safe margin that keeps type off the cut line the whole way round.
Card and surface
Metallic and pearlescent stocks reflect light across the whole tag. Transparent inks allow that reflection to influence colour, while an opaque base is needed where the artwork should read independently of it.
Artwork and file guidance

Prepare the artwork

Plan the finished format before export

Keep essential metallic card swing tags copy clear of the trim edge and attachment area. The page-specific artwork guidance explains the considerations for formats, holes, folds and variable product information.

Separate areas that should show the metallic ground from areas that need an opaque base. Fine light type and subtle tints are unreliable when the reflective stock is allowed to influence them.

If metallic card swing tags artwork is not final, submit the product and specification details first. This gives the production conversation a clear starting point without forcing a premature file upload.

Questions and answers

Questions before you order

Metallic Card Swing Tags FAQs

How is metallic card different from foil?

Foil is applied only where the artwork asks for it; metallic card shines across the whole tag, including the areas that are printed over.

Will my colours look the same on metallic card?

No. The metallic surface shows through the ink and tints it. Dark colours gain a sheen and pale colours fade, so use a white ink base where true colour matters.

Can you emboss metallic card?

Yes, and the raised area catches the light strongly, which makes embossing one of the most effective finishes on this card.

Do barcodes work on metallic card?

Reflection can confuse scanners. Print barcodes and QR codes on a white panel, and test one before a full run.
