Material guide
Getting the best results from neon card
Neon card is a fluorescent board that looks brighter than any printed ink, which makes it the strongest choice for messages that have to be noticed quickly.
Choosing the weight
Neon card is offered at 300gsm, 350gsm and 420gsm. Sale and promotional tags are often used for a short time, so 300gsm or 350gsm is usually enough. Choose 420gsm for tags that hang for a full season.
What neon is for
Fluorescent colour attracts attention across a shop floor. It works best for short messages: sale prices, "new", "last few", event passes and status labels. It is less suited to detailed brand tags, because the colour dominates everything printed on it.
Designing for fluorescent card
Print in black or a very dark colour for maximum contrast. Process colours mix with the fluorescent background and lose their brightness, so full-colour logos rarely look as intended. Large, bold type reads best; one number or word can carry the whole tag.
The fluorescent effect cannot be reproduced on screen. Expect the card to look brighter in person than any digital proof suggests.
Light and fading
Fluorescent pigments fade faster than ordinary card in strong sunlight. Neon tags work well indoors and for short promotions; for window displays or outdoor use over several weeks, expect some loss of brightness.
Codes and handling
Barcode scanners read black on fluorescent yellow and green reliably, but some reds and pinks reduce contrast. Test a printed barcode if it is used at the till. Neon card is uncoated, so prices can be written on with a marker.
Additional information
Build the specification
Neon Card Swing Tags specification
- Size and proportions
- A bespoke outline is cut to its own profile, so artwork needs bleed that follows the curve and a safe margin that keeps type off the cut line the whole way round.
- Card and surface
- Fluorescent card supplies the bright colour through the material itself. Dark ink provides the strongest contrast; pale tints and colour-critical artwork shift against the intense stock colour.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Keep essential neon card swing tags copy clear of the trim edge and attachment area. The page-specific artwork guidance explains the considerations for formats, holes, folds and variable product information.
Build the layout around black or another dense contrasting ink and reduce the palette. A monitor cannot reproduce fluorescent reflectance, so use a physical stock sample when the exact effect drives the choice.
If neon card swing tags artwork is not final, submit the product and specification details first. This gives the production conversation a clear starting point without forcing a premature file upload.

Questions before you order
Neon Card Swing Tags FAQs
Which colours print best on neon card?
Black and very dark inks. Lighter process colours mix with the fluorescent ground and lose their brightness.
Will neon tags fade?
Fluorescent pigment fades faster than ordinary card in direct sunlight, so neon suits indoor use and short promotions best.
Why does the proof look duller than the card?
Screens cannot show fluorescent colour. The printed tag will look brighter than any digital proof.
Can I write prices on neon tags?
Yes. The card is uncoated, so a marker or pen works, which suits sale prices that change during a promotion.
