A product-specific format
Laminated Swing Tags for product presentation
Laminated Swing Tags give product teams a dedicated format for the information and presentation requirements of the item being sold. The specification should begin with the product it will be attached to, then account for the information the tag needs to carry.
Use the form to record the final size, card direction, print sides, finishing and attachment for laminated swing tags. This keeps the practical decisions together before artwork is supplied or confirmed.

Where this format fits
Laminated Swing Tags uses
Frequently handled tags
Add a film surface where a printed tag is expected to pass through repeated handling before it reaches the customer.
Photographic product artwork
Choose gloss when strong colour and surface reflection support the image, or matt where lower glare matters more.
Dark solid print
Use the film as one part of a specification that helps manage ordinary scuffing and fingerprints on dense colour.
Coordinated packaging
Match the lamination direction to boxes, sleeves or cards while checking that any writing field remains untreated.
Material guide
Getting the best results from laminated tags
A laminated tag has a thin matt or gloss film bonded over the print, which protects the surface from rubbing, fingerprints and light moisture.
Choosing the weight
Laminated tags are offered at 300gsm, 350gsm and 420gsm. The film adds stiffness, so a laminated 350gsm tag feels firmer than an unlaminated one. Choose 420gsm for premium tags and larger formats.
Matt or gloss film
Matt lamination gives a smooth, non-reflective surface with a soft feel. It mutes colours slightly, hides fingerprints and is easy to read under shop lighting. Gloss lamination makes colours richer and blacks deeper, but reflects light and shows marks more readily.
If the tag carries a barcode, QR code or small print, matt is the safer choice, because glare from gloss film can stop scanners and make text hard to read.
When lamination is worth it
Choose lamination when tags rub together in transit, are handled often in store, or carry large dark solid areas that would otherwise scuff. It also protects against splashes, though for products that get properly wet a waterproof synthetic stock is more reliable.
Writing on laminated tags
A laminated surface does not take ballpoint or pencil. If prices or sizes are written by hand, laminate only the front and leave the back uncoated, or plan for a permanent marker. Stickers stick well to matt film for price changes.
Adding Spot UV or foil
Matt lamination is the best base for Spot UV: the clear gloss coating stands out sharply against the matt film. Foil also applies well on top of matt lamination. Supply each effect as its own layer or spot colour in the artwork, aligned to the print.

Build the specification
Laminated Swing Tags specification
- Card and surface
- Gloss coating keeps ink on the surface for maximum saturation, which suits photographic artwork and deep solids. It will not take a ballpoint, and finger marks show across dark areas.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Keep essential laminated swing tags copy clear of the trim edge and attachment area. The page-specific artwork guidance explains the considerations for formats, holes, folds and variable product information.
Gloss shows banding in gradients more readily than an uncoated sheet, so check large tonal transitions before export and keep any area intended for handwriting off the coated face entirely.
If laminated swing tags artwork is not final, submit the product and specification details first. This gives the production conversation a clear starting point without forcing a premature file upload.

Laminated Swing Tags FAQs
Should I choose matt or gloss lamination?
Matt for readability, fingerprint resistance and barcodes; gloss for the richest colour on image-led designs that will not be scanned.
Is a laminated tag waterproof?
It resists splashes, but the card edge is still paper and can absorb water if the tag stays wet. For constant moisture choose a waterproof synthetic stock.
Can I laminate just one side?
Yes. Laminating only the front leaves the back uncoated so prices or sizes can still be written on by hand.
Does lamination change the colour?
Slightly. Matt film softens colours a little and gloss film deepens them. Approve brand colours with the finish in mind.
