Premium stock and finishing
Luxury Swing Tags
A luxury tag earns its cost through material weight and finishing restraint rather than through more print, so the specification is mostly about what to leave off.

Premium swing tags
Luxury swing tags: heavy board and restrained finishes
Luxury swing tags rely on weight and restraint rather than more print: heavy board, a single colour or foil mark and perhaps a blind deboss. They suit high-value fashion, jewellery and watches, fine food and spirits, and limited editions.
The Custom Tag Builder offers card up to 1200gsm, hot foil in five colours including gold and silver, embossing, debossing and metal eyelets. One strong finish usually reads better than several, and a sample is worth requesting if the feel of the board is part of the brief.

Luxury Swing Tags specification
- Weight does the work
- The single most reliable signal of a premium tag is board weight. A 600gsm duplexed tag reads as expensive before any ink or foil is applied.
- Duplexing and edge colour
- Two boards bonded together give a thickness no single sheet reaches, and the exposed edge can be coloured to become part of the design.
- Restraint in the artwork
- Premium tags carry less, not more. Decide what to remove before deciding what to add, because empty board is the effect being bought.
- One finishing technique
- Foil, deboss or edge colour, rarely all three. Stacking techniques reads as cost rather than as quality.
- Cord as part of the object
- At this level the cord is specified rather than defaulted. Waxed cotton, grosgrain ribbon and knotted silk all change how the finished tag reads.
- Quantity and setup
- Foil and deboss carry a tooling cost that is fixed per design. Longer runs absorb it; very short runs do not, so check the break point.
Material, print and finish
Choose the details around the product
Luxury Swing Tags format alone does not determine the finished hang tag. The card, print, finish and attachment should be chosen together with the product context and artwork.
- Stock: Heavy textured, cotton and duplexed boards suit the category, because the surface is felt before the print is read.
- Foil: A small foiled mark on a heavy matt board is the most reliable premium effect available, precisely because the shine sits against a dead flat surface.
- Blind deboss: An unfilled deboss carries no ink at all and reads as confidence. It needs a board heavy enough to hold the impression without showing through.
- Attachment: Waxed cord, grosgrain and knotted silk suit heavy tags. The cord weight should match the board or the tag hangs badly.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Supply foil and emboss areas as separate vector layers, and keep fine lines and small type heavier than you would for ink, as foil and relief lose very fine detail.
Leave space around the mark: on a luxury tag, empty card is part of the design.

Luxury Swing Tags FAQs
What makes a tag read as luxury?
Board weight and restraint, in that order. A heavy duplexed board with one small foiled mark reads as more expensive than a lighter tag carrying foil, Spot UV and a full-colour design together.
Is duplexing worth the cost?
Where thickness is the effect you want, yes. Bonding two boards reaches weights no single sheet does, and it lets you colour the exposed edge, which is an effect you cannot get any other way.
Should I use foil and embossing together?
Usually not. Stacking finishing techniques reads as cost rather than quality. Pick the one that suits the mark and let the board do the rest.
Do foil and deboss have a setup cost?
Yes, a tooling cost fixed per design. It is absorbed easily across a longer run but dominates a very short one, so check where the break point falls before committing to the finish.
