Why Swing Tags Tear Around the Hole
Tearing normally results from the relationship between hole position, remaining board, tag leverage, attachment movement and handling. An eyelet can help some constructions, but it cannot compensate for a hole placed too close to an edge or a fragile narrow section. Diagnose the load path before changing only the hardware.
Check the likely cause
Inspect an unused tag and a failed tag together. The tear direction often shows where the attachment concentrated force.

Read the direction of failure
A tear running from the hole to the nearest edge usually points to insufficient material or pull in that direction. Crushed fibres around the entire hole can indicate repeated movement, a tight knot or an incompatible eyelet. Photograph the failed tag at scale and record when the damage first appears: assembly, transit, display or customer handling.
Change one structural variable at a time
Test a larger edge margin, smaller tag, stronger board or smoother attachment separately so the effective change can be identified. Lamination or an eyelet may alter wear, but they also change the construction. A paper mock-up can check geometry; a production-material sample is needed to evaluate actual strength.
Put the approved hole in the controlled artwork
Record the hole centre, diameter, eyelet specification and attachment direction on the dieline. Keep text and borders outside the full movement area, not only the visible opening. For shaped tags, assess the narrowest path from the hole to every nearby cut edge.
