A product-specific format

Hook Style Swing Tags for product presentation

Hook Style Swing Tags give product teams a dedicated format for the information and presentation requirements of the item being sold. The specification should begin with the product it will be attached to, then account for the information the tag needs to carry.

Use the form to record the final size, card direction, print sides, finishing and attachment for hook style swing tags. This keeps the practical decisions together before artwork is supplied or confirmed.

Build the specification

Hook Style Swing Tags specification

The hook throat is everything
All the load passes through the narrow neck of the hook. It sets the board weight, and it is the single dimension to get right before anything else.
What it hooks onto
A hook sized for a thin rail will not hold on a thick peg. Supply the diameter of whatever it has to attach to.
No attachment cost
The saving is real: no string, no elastic, no eyelet and no hand-threading. On large runs that removes a whole finishing operation.
Grain direction
Run the board grain across the hook rather than along it, or the neck will crack the first time it flexes.
Artwork and file guidance

Prepare the artwork

Plan the finished format before export

Build the cut hook as part of the dieline and keep printing out of the narrow throat where repeated flexing shows wear first. Mark the grain direction on the production file when it matters to the hook strength.

Show the rail or peg diameter beside the cut path and keep the main message below the opening, where it remains visible once the tag is carrying its own weight.

Questions and answers

Questions before you order

Hook Style Swing Tags FAQs

Does a hook tag really need no string?

That is the point of the shape. The hook is cut into the board, so the tag attaches directly and the whole threading operation disappears from the finishing.

Will the hook snap?

Not if the board weight and grain direction are right. Run the grain across the hook throat rather than along it, and specify a heavier board than you would for a flat tag.

What do you need to know to cut the hook?

The diameter of the rail, peg or bar it has to attach to. A hook cut for a thin rail slips straight off a thick one, and there is no way to adjust it after the die is made.
