For denim and workwear
Custom Jeans Tags
Denim is sold on fit and fabric detail, so a jeans tag has to carry waist, leg, rise and wash information without becoming a spec sheet.
- In stock online. Swing tags are configured and ordered online from one tag; briefs for several designs or very large runs can also be quoted through the Custom Tag Builder.
- Free UK delivery. Standard online orders are delivered free to one UK address.
- Free reprint or refund if faulty. Report faulty, damaged or incorrect tags within 30 days of delivery and we reprint them or refund you in full, with free return postage if a return is needed. Because every order is printed to your specification, change-of-mind returns are not accepted. Your statutory rights are not affected.
- Online orders arrive 2–6 working days after artwork approval

Denim hang tags
Jeans tags for fit, size and wash information
Jeans tags sell denim on fit and fabric, so they carry the waist, leg and rise, the wash, the fabric weight and care guidance, usually on heavy kraft or uncoated board that suits the product. They hang from a belt loop or the waistband.
Most denim ranges need the same tag in many size combinations, so plan the size fields as variable data rather than as separate designs. The Custom Tag Builder asks how many designs you need; describe the size run in the notes.
Tag anatomy
Jeans Tags: parts of the tag
Jeans Tags start at 50 × 75mm on coated one side card. Each numbered part of the diagram is a choice you can change in the order panel.
- CardCoated one side, 250gsm to 1200gsm, with 4 other cards in the order panel.
- Front print areaLogo and brand name, printed full colour, in one to three colours or a Pantone match.
- Product detailsPrice, size, barcode, QR code or care notes, below the logo or on the back when the tag is printed on both sides.
- Bleed3mm of artwork past every trim edge, so colour runs cleanly to the cut.
- Hole and eyelet3mm drilled hole as standard, or 5mm with one of 4 metal eyelet colours.
- AttachmentChoose black lock string, white lock string, black elastic loop, white elastic loop and more, or no string.
Where this format fits
Jeans Tags uses
Fit and size identification
The tag carries waist, leg and rise where a customer can compare two pairs on a rail without opening either.
Wash and fabric story
Raw, rinsed and selvedge denim are sold on the detail of the cloth, and the tag is where that detail gets space.
Care and shrinkage guidance
First-wash behaviour matters on denim more than most fabrics, so the tag often carries it rather than leaving it to the sewn label.
Multi-line size runs
One tag design covers a whole size grid, with only the printed numbers changing across the run.
Additional information
Build the specification
Jeans Tags specification
- Board weight against denim
- Denim is heavy and stiff, and a light tag looks flimsy hanging against it. Most jeans tags are specified at 350gsm or above so the tag holds its shape rather than curling against the fabric.
- Waist, leg and rise
- Three numbers have to be findable in a shop without the customer unfolding anything. Decide whether they sit on the front face or a back panel before the size is fixed, because that decision drives the format.
- Wash and fabric detail
- Raw, rinsed, selvedge and stretch content all belong on the tag, and they are the copy most often cut when the artwork runs out of room. Budget a panel for them rather than shrinking the type.
- Belt loop or waistband
- A jeans tag is usually tied through a belt loop or pinned at the waistband. The hole position changes with that choice, so confirm it before the dieline is cut.
- Barcode placement
- The barcode has to scan while the tag hangs. Keep it clear of the fold and away from the hole, where handling wears the surface fastest.
- Quantity across the size run
- A denim range multiplies quickly once every waist and leg combination is counted. Share the size grid with the quantity so the split is priced as one run rather than guessed.
Material, print and finish
Choose the details around the product
Jeans Tags format alone does not determine the finished hang tag. The card, print, finish and attachment should be chosen together with the product context and artwork.
- Stock in keeping with denim: Kraft, uncoated and heavy natural boards suit denim because they share its unfinished character. A high-gloss tag reads as a different product category entirely.
- Printing: Denim branding is usually one or two colours over a natural ground, which keeps the tag honest and the cost down across a wide size run.
- Leather patch conventions: Where the brand already uses a leather waist patch, the tag usually echoes its proportions and type rather than competing with it.
- Attachment: Waxed cotton, jute twine and safety pins all suit denim. Match the cord weight to the board so a heavy tag is not hanging from thin string.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Set up the size fields, such as waist, leg and fit, as clearly marked areas so each version can be filled from a spreadsheet. Check every combination before approval.
Kraft and uncoated board soften fine type, so keep size figures bold and large enough to read on a rail.

Jeans Tags FAQs
What weight of card suits a jeans tag?
Usually 350gsm or heavier. Denim is stiff and heavy, and a lighter tag creases against the fabric and curls on the rail, which makes the whole garment look cheaper than it is.
Can waist and leg sizes be varied across one order?
Yes. The design stays fixed and only the printed size changes, which is handled as variable data within a single run rather than as separate jobs.
Should the tag attach to a belt loop or the waistband?
Either works, but decide before the dieline is cut. A belt loop needs the hole nearer the top edge than a waistband pin, and moving it later means re-cutting the form.
Will a barcode scan through the hang tag?
Yes, provided it is printed on a flat panel with enough quiet zone and kept off the fold. Uncoated kraft scans reliably if the contrast is kept high.
