Oval swing tags have a smooth, elongated outline that suits bottles, cosmetics, apothecary-style ranges and brands with a rounded logo. Hung portrait the tag looks tall and narrow; hung landscape it works as a name plate.
An oval loses usable area at both ends, so keep text in the centre band. Oval is a preset shape in the Custom Tag Builder; give both the width and the height, because the proportions change the look more than the overall size does.

- A curved outline gives no square corner to align to, so centre the artwork on the tag itself and keep type an even distance from the cut edge all the way round.

Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Build the oval to its exact width and height, as small changes in proportion change the look. Centre the artwork on both axes and keep type in the middle band.
Place the hole on the centre line at one end, with enough card around it for the tag to hang without twisting.

How much does an oval hold compared with a rectangle?
Roughly two thirds. The curve takes area from all four corners, so a line of type that fits a rectangle will overrun the same-width oval.
Should the oval be portrait or landscape?
Landscape suits a single line such as a brand name; portrait suits a stacked mark with a line or two beneath. The hole placement follows.
Is an oval the same as a rounded rectangle?
No. An oval is a continuous curve with no straight edge; a rounded rectangle keeps straight sides with a radius only at the corners, and holds noticeably more copy.
Does an oval need a cutting form?
Yes, like any curved outline, so it sits on the shaped-tag price ladder rather than the standard one.
