Hide and faux leather
Leather Swing Tags

A product-specific format
Leather Swing Tags for product presentation
Leather Swing Tags give product teams a dedicated format for the information and presentation requirements of the item being sold. The specification should begin with the product it will be attached to, then account for the information the tag needs to carry.
Use the form to record the final size, card direction, print sides, finishing and attachment for leather swing tags. This keeps the practical decisions together before artwork is supplied or confirmed.

Additional information
Build the specification
Leather Swing Tags specification
- Thickness, not weight
- Leather is specified in millimetres or ounces rather than gsm. Around 1.5mm to 2mm suits most hang tags; thinner curls and thicker will not fold or rivet cleanly.
- It is not litho printed
- Deboss, hot foil and laser etch are the practical marking methods. Four-colour printing onto hide is neither durable nor convincing, so design for a single mark.
- Edge finish is a visible decision
- A raw cut edge, a burnished edge and a painted edge are three different products. On a small tag the edge is a large proportion of what you see.
- Hole, rivet or stitch
- Leather tears differently from card. A punched hole usually needs an eyelet, and rivets or stitching are common where the tag stays attached permanently.
- Natural variation
- Hide varies between pieces and between batches. If you need exact colour consistency across a long run, a faux leather will hold tolerance where real hide will not.
Artwork and file guidance
Prepare the artwork
Plan the finished format before export
Keep essential leather swing tags copy clear of the trim edge and attachment area. The page-specific artwork guidance explains the considerations for formats, holes, folds and variable product information.
If leather swing tags artwork is not final, submit the product and specification details first. This gives the production conversation a clear starting point without forcing a premature file upload.

Leather Swing Tags FAQs
Can you print full colour onto leather?
Not durably. Leather takes a deboss, a hot foil or a laser etch well, and all three last. Litho-style colour printing on hide scuffs off and rarely looks like it belongs.
What thickness should I choose?
Around 1.5mm to 2mm for most hang tags. Thinner leather curls at the corners and thicker will not rivet or fold cleanly, so the useful window is narrower than people expect.
Will every tag look the same?
Real hide varies by piece and by batch, which is part of why it is chosen. If you need strict consistency across a long run, specify a faux leather instead.
