What to consider for seasonal & promotional tags

Seasonal tags let a core product enter a short campaign without reprinting the whole package. The useful brief balances recognisable campaign cues with dates, price information and stock quantities that will not create avoidable leftovers.

01

Campaign window

State when the tag must arrive, when the offer ends and whether undated artwork can be reused in another season.

02

Version control

Separate products, prices, store groups and language versions carefully so fulfilment teams receive the correct tags.

03

Shape and storage

Stars, hearts and other silhouettes need safe edges and efficient packing; standard shapes are easier to store and reuse.

Information hierarchy

Details the tag may need to carry

  • Campaign or occasion name
  • Offer, price or qualifying terms
  • Relevant date or edition
  • Product or store reference
  • Landing page or QR destination

Production notes

Turn the idea into a workable tag

Black Friday and sale tags prioritise contrast and price clarity. Christmas and gifting tags can use shape, foil or coloured string where the added production time is planned.

Order quantity should reflect realistic campaign stock. Small wording or date changes can make excess printed material unusable.

Decision context

Control dates, versions and surplus in seasonal work

A seasonal tag can adapt a core product without reprinting the main package, but the campaign window must be explicit. Record the arrival date, launch date, offer end and number of product or store versions. Those dates influence artwork approval, production complexity and realistic quantity.

Separate campaign cues from operational information. Offer wording, price, qualifying terms, product reference and QR destination need a readable hierarchy. A strong shape or colour may attract attention, but it should not hide the product identity or required information on the underlying pack.

Undated common artwork can sometimes be reused, while specific dates and prices make surplus obsolete. Use version control and order quantities that reflect real campaign stock. Check every destination before printing a QR code and test the final code at its printed size.

Stars, hearts and other silhouettes create an immediate occasion cue but need safe cut paths and efficient packing. Standard shapes are easier to store and reapply. Compare both options against the campaign duration, application labour and the likelihood of reuse before choosing the construction.
