The Substrate That Decides Your Brand Perception
You can’t fix a bad material with a good design.
You can’t upgrade perception if the tag feels cheap.
And you can’t use the same stock for kraft, foil, and plastic.
So let’s start where your design should: the base material.

There Are 2 Material Rules. Don’t Violate Them.
- The material must match your product type.
- The finish must match your material.
Everything else — size, shape, printing — comes after.
📦 Uncoated Card
Feels real. Prints flat. Writes well.
- No gloss or shine
- Takes ink like paper should
- Slight texture = great for minimal brands
- Accepts foil & embossing (with care)

- Colour = dark brown or rustic beige
- Texture = heavy grain
- Doesn’t play well with light colours or foil

Common Mistakes (Don’t Learn These the Hard Way)
- Printing white text on kraft = unreadable
- Embossing on gloss = no depth
- Using pen on silk card = smears
- Foil on recycled = patchy results
- QR code on textured paper = won’t scan
- Assuming plastic = premium (often isn’t)
Always test your design on the actual stock before mass printing.

Final Material Selection Checklist
- Does this material fit the product type?
- Does it support the print finish I want?
- Is it compatible with my design contrast?
- Will the feel of it impress or cheapen?
- Does it match the sustainability claims?
Your swing tag doesn’t need to look good.
It needs to feel right.
